Sharjah Airport in the UAE welcomed over 4.2 million passengers and registered 26,473 flight movements during the first quarter (Q1) of 2024, underscoring its pivotal role in facilitating travel and cargo transportation.
Ali Salim Al Midfa, Chairman of Sharjah Airport Authority (SAA), noted that the airport transported more than 42,000 tons of cargo, reinforcing its significance in bolstering tourism, economic growth, and commercial activities in the Emirate of Sharjah. Al Midfa highlighted a notable 10 percent increase in passenger numbers compared to the same period last year, signaling the concerted efforts of SAA and its partners to elevate Sharjah Airport’s status among the top 5 airports in the region. This growth reflects their commitment to delivering outstanding travel experiences and superior services.
With ongoing expansion projects, Al Midfa expressed confidence in the airport’s ability to accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic, aiming to reach a capacity of 25 million passengers annually by 2027. He attributed Sharjah Airport’s progress to a comprehensive long-term strategy implemented in collaboration with strategic partners from the public and private sectors. This collaboration has enhanced the airport’s competitiveness, operational efficiency, and service standards, while continual infrastructure development and the adoption of smart solutions have streamlined travel processes and expanded connectivity with global tourist destinations.
Flight activity peaked in March, recording a total of 9,127 flights, while cargo transportation reached its zenith at 17.7 thousand tons during the same month. January witnessed the highest influx of passengers, with a total of 1,444,525 individuals passing through the airport, underscoring Sharjah Airport’s significance as a key aviation hub in the UAE.
