Menzies Aviation joins IATA’s Focus Africa initiative

Menzies Aviation, a global ground-handling company, has solidified its commitment to advancing the African aviation industry by officially partnering with the International Air Transport Association’s (IATA) Focus Africa initiative. Already holding the position of the largest aviation services provider on the continent, Menzies Aviation intends to leverage its extensive industry expertise to help address the various challenges that airlines and airports face in Africa.

Abdoulaye Cisse, the Head of Africa at Menzies Aviation, emphasized the significant potential for air travel in Africa, given its substantial population size, which constitutes 17% of the world’s population, yet contributes only approximately 2% to global travel. This partnership with IATA’s Focus Africa initiative underscores Menzies Aviation’s long-term commitment to the continent and its eagerness to collaborate with industry leaders in enhancing aviation safety, promoting growth, and contributing to Africa’s developmental journey.

Notably, Menzies Aviation is the first ground-handling company to join the Focus Africa initiative, further strengthening this collaborative effort. The recent addition of the African Airlines Association to the initiative, which has also committed to ongoing joint programs with IATA, underscores the growing momentum of this collective of industry stakeholders.

Led by IATA, the Focus Africa initiative is focused on addressing six key areas encompassing safety, infrastructure, connectivity, sustainability, future skills, and finance and distribution. Kamil Al Awadhi, IATA’s Regional Vice-President for Africa and the Middle East, emphasized the critical role of strong partnerships in the success of Focus Africa, which aims to support the development of a resilient African air transport industry, fostering economic growth, skills development, and job creation.

In sum, Menzies Aviation’s partnership with IATA’s Focus Africa initiative marks a significant step toward advancing the African aviation sector and underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in achieving this goal.
