In a recent press release by Menzies Aviation, the leading service partner to the world’s airports and airlines and an Agility Global company, it was announced that their net-zero targets have been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). The targets aim to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across the value chain by 2045, including a 50% reduction in scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by 2030 from the 2022 baseline, and a 30% to 42% reduction in scope 3 GHG emissions within the same timeframe.
This approval highlights Menzies Aviation’s commitment to sustainability leadership and environmental stewardship. By setting ambitious, science-based targets, the company aims to reduce its environmental footprint and set a benchmark for the aviation services industry.
To achieve these targets, Menzies’ All In plan focuses on four key pillars: the Environment, People, Safety, and Ethics. This plan, initiated in 2021, aims to drive positive change and address climate change urgently, aiming to limit global warming to 1.5°C.
Significant achievements include investing in electric and lower-emission Ground Support Equipment (GSE), with 17% of all GSE now electric, rising to 48% in Europe. The company has also invested in solar panels, smart building technologies, and circular cargo packaging solutions. Additionally, Menzies partners with Climate Impact Partner’s Million Mangroves project to remove carbon from the atmosphere and restore ecosystems.
John Geddes, Chief Governance & Sustainability Officer & Company Secretary, expressed excitement about the SBTi approval, emphasizing the company’s commitment to decarbonization and sustainable growth. Katy Reid, Head of Sustainability and Corporate Responsibility, highlighted the importance of progressing against their goals to achieve a sustainable, net-zero future.
The SBTi is a corporate climate action organization that enables companies to combat the climate crisis by setting and independently assessing science-based targets.
