Turkish Airlines Explores Fleet Expansion with Airbus and Boeing, Negotiating Purchase of 235 Aircraft

Turkish Airlines is in discussions with both Airbus and Boeing to acquire a total of 235 aircraft as part of its ambitious expansion strategy, Chairman Ahmet Bolat revealed today. This move comes as the airline aims to bolster its fleet, with plans to add nearly 600 planes over the next decade. Last year, Turkish Airlines finalized a deal with Airbus for 355 firm and optional orders, encompassing A321 narrow body and A350 wide body aircraft.

At an event held in Istanbul with Airbus and Rolls-Royce, Bolat emphasized the carrier’s commitment to maintaining a balanced approach between Airbus and Boeing. While negotiations continue, Turkish Airlines is closely monitoring developments at Boeing, particularly in light of recent production slowdowns due to safety concerns.

Rolls-Royce, a key player in the aerospace industry, is also exploring opportunities to enhance its presence in Turkey. Bolat mentioned discussions about potentially establishing maintenance, repair, and overhaul capabilities within the country, along with expanding the supply chain.

The event served as a platform to unveil a strategic program devised by Turkish Airlines, Airbus, and other aerospace companies in Turkey aimed at fostering the growth of the local aerospace industry.
