In an effort to improve connection for travelers on both airlines, Malaysian carrier Batik Air and UAE’s flag carrier Etihad Airways announced on Tuesday that they had entered into a codeshare agreement.
With the new deal, travellers will be able to use a single ticket to connect to five places in Malaysia, including Langkawi, Penang, and Kota Kinabalu, which is the entry point to Borneo’s highest mountain.
Passengers from Abu Dhabi can also go to domestic locations in Malaysia, such as Tawau and Johor Bahru, the report said.
Travellers can also access three foreign locations through this partnership – Perth, Australia; Da Nang and Hanoi in Vietnam. According to Etihad Airways’ statement, Medan and Hong Kong will be added soon.
“This collaboration significantly enhances our codeshare network, offering travellers seamless access to five key destinations in Malaysia,” Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, said.
“Equally, we eagerly anticipate extending a warm welcome to customers from Asia visiting our home in Abu Dhabi, experiencing our renowned hospitality, as well as passengers connecting to Etihad’s growing global network in the Middle East, Africa, and Europe via our Abu Dhabi hub.”
